I had to go up on the roof a few times to clean chimneys and have them ready for all the heavy use they will get over winter. While up there I took a few photos. They weren't the most perfect days or conditions for taking photos but at least I got something to show some elevated views of the pond and back garden (first row of photos below) and views of most of the front of the property (second row).
A few young white tailed deer visited the front garden again, this time at dusk when I had just barely enough light to see and photograph them from inside the house. During the nights all summer they've been coming up to the windows and close to the house. It was nice to have just a little bit of light to get a good look at them this time. Devon was in another room video-taping the deer and got some nicer and more clear views of the family.
September and October are peak times for fall colors and fall mushrooms. I spent most days out in the woods photographing both, learned a lot about mushrooms and made some interesting finds. Devon was great at spotting many that I had overlooked.
We found another blue spotted salamander in the forest.
The firewood pile is finally all cut up. Next it all needs to be moved closer to the house, split and stacked for drying. A little white crowned sparrow has been enjoying his perch on the logs.
Devon and I have been hiking daily and he is great at helping me find interesting things to photograph. Sometimes he becomes the interesting thing to photograph too. Here he is on the red carpet in the forest behind the house. Next, best friends taking a nap.
The views along the country roads between our house and the little town are amazing at this time of year. There are a few nice spots along the way where we have great views of lakes. The fall colors reflecting on calm water makes the already nice scenery even more incredible.
It is nice to stand back and admire the forest but it is just as nice to be in the middle of it at this time of year. Imagine not just looking through a kaleidoscope or watching fireworks from a distance but being inside the whole show! It's hard to know where to point the camera! In this section below I've posted the scenery on the ground deep in the woods, more interesting colorful mushrooms, a few other scenes in the area and a couple unusual trees and growths on trees.
